Audit solutions can be of great help to business owners in any field. After all, where there are people handling money, there is the chance for plans to go awry.
According to the Lansing State Journal, David Hudgens, a member of the St. Johns City Commission, has been charged with embezzling more than $250,000 from Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, Michigan. He worked as a consultant at the establishment.
Investigators allege that Hudgens stole the money over the course of six years, the source reported. Stan Willis, the owner of the funeral home, noticed discrepancies in pre-paid funeral accounts and decided to request further examination. He plans to go through with all pre-arrangements despite the monetary losses.
“I just can’t believe that somebody would go to these extremes,” Willis told the news provider. “I regret that we couldn’t catch it sooner.”
Since Hudgens was also working with other local civic organizations, the discovery at Osgood has led to more investigations to ensure no other accounts have been compromised. While there is no substitute for strong controls, implementing audit solutions is critical at times like these when potential financial inaccuracies need to be revealed.
