AP audit uncovers Vermont bookkeeper’s embezzlement

The former bookkeeper of Vermont-based Radiantec was recently indicted for embezzling more than $300,000 from the company, according to The Associated Press.

An accounts payable audit revealed that Sarah Sanville misappropriated $315,000 of the radiant and solar heating systems company's funds over six years. Sanville wrote unauthorized checks to herself using the signature stamp of Radiantec owner Robert Starr then deposited the money into her personal bank account, the news source reports.

According to WCAX-TV, Sanville used the funds to make a variety of purchases, including a house, snowmobile, and pickup truck.

Earlier this year, a Vermont town's electrical department was the subject of a much larger AP audit that ultimately incriminated Joyce its sole accounts manager, deposit-maker, and check-writer, according to the Burlington Free Press. Over a period of 12 years, Joyce Bellavance used money from the town of Hardwick's electrical account to pay off $1.6 million in personal expenses, including her daughter's wedding reception.
